SVIJANY CHATEAU
In 1345, Cistercian monks from the nearby Hradiště monastery founded a farm in Svijany, in which beer was brewed in the 16th century, and the construction of the castle was completed in 1578. In 1623 the estate was bought by Albrecht von Wallenstein and the chateau remained the property of the Wallensteins until 1820.
In 2013 the dilapidated chateau was purchased by Svijany Brewery and the company management decided to save it, which it succeeded in doing with the help of funding from the EEA and Norway Grants. During the second phase of the reconstruction of the chateau, the chateau hotel was opened on the upper floors in June 2017.
Nowadays, Svijany Chateau is open to the public and offers exhibitions on archaeology and the history of the chateau and the surrounding area, as well as a tour of the catacombs, the chateau chapels and other interesting places.
