FRÝDLANT

The town of Frýdlant is located in the north of Bohemia on the little Smědá river in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains. The first written record of the town dates back to 1278. from then it was built up by the houses of Bíbrštejn, Redern, Gallas and Clam-Gallas. However, the most famous owner of the estate was the military commander Albrecht von Wallenstein, who was made Duke of Frýdlant in 1624, incorporating all of his estates into that vast duchy.

Visitors to the town nowadays can see sights such as the neo-Renaissance town hall by Viennese architect Franz von Neumann, which houses the museum with its exhibition on the history of the town, as well as the town hall tower, known as Špitálek, formerly a refuge for the sick and now part of the museum's exhibition. Another notable sight is the Frýdlant Nativity Scene with the original mechanism made by Gustav Simon. It is also worth mentioning the Church of the Discovery of the Holy Cross with the Redern mausoleum, the rectory and the stations of the cross. The forest nature trail takes you along the river Smědá as far as the Chateau Brewery, where the popular Albrecht Frýdlant beer is brewed.
