HOSTINNÉ - FRANCISCAN MONASTERY

The heyday in the history of the town of Hostinné came with its link to the eminent noble House of Wallenstein, whose members there formed a separate branch of the family known as the Hostinné Line. The first of these was Zdeněk von Wallenstein, who bought the town and the estate in 1521. For several generations this family managed and improved the estate by constructing new buildings and farming, and within the duchy Hostinné was a privileged town, in other words a highly important residence.
The town's greatest prosperity came during the era of Jiří von Wallenstein (1519-1584), a prominent politician, excellent manager and a prolific builder. His numerous offspring from three marriages included his first-born son Wilhelm von Wallenstein (1547-1595), who inherited the Heřmanice farmstead near Jaroměř from his uncle, where a son, Albrecht Václav Eusebius von Wallenstein (1583-1634), was born to him and his wife Markéta Smiřická of Smiřice on 14 September 1583.
Nowadays, one of Hostinné's most notable sights is the Franciscan monastery. It was built in the 1680s and was declared Building of the Year after its extensive renovation in 2010-2012. It is now a multipurpose cultural facility and houses the Municipal Museum, the Gallery of Ancient Art and the library.
The exhibition in the Municipal Museum looks back at several generations of Wallensteins associated with the history of the town and the surrounding area. Anyone interested in the history of the Wallensteins can also find detailed information in the extensive publication entitled Hostinné, available from the Town Information Centre and the museum ticket office.
