DĚTENICE CHATEAU

Local legend has it that Dětenice was founded under the reign of Prince Oldřich. When the prince and his retinue were hunting in the deep forests around there, they found some abandoned children, took them along with them, and had a village built for them called Dětenice. The village really does have a very long history; the first written record of it dates back to 1052.
Dětenice was acquired by Albrecht von Wallenstein in in 1622. However, as Dětenice did not fit well into his Frýdlant estate, he exchanged it with his relative Adam von Wallenstein. In the mid-18th century the House of Clam-Gallas converted the Renaissance fortress into a Baroque chateau. In 1998 the dilapidated chateau was purchased by Mr and Mrs Ondráček, and after extensive renovation work was opened up to the public.
