ČESKÁ LÍPA - AUGUSTINIAN MONASTERY

Česká Lípa was built by the Lipý water castle at the ford across the river Ploučnice. The town was founded by the House of Ronovec, and flourished during the era of the Berks of Dubá. However, the town's heyday came with the foundation of the monastery and school by Albrecht von Wallenstein, who was later succeeded by the House of Kounice.

The monastery of the Order of St. Augustine was established in Česká Lípa in 1624. The monastery also housed an ecclesiastical school, which gradually grew to become what is now Česká Lípa Grammar School. The former monastery building now houses the Local History Museum and Gallery with its extensive collections and exhibitions. Services are still held in the monastery church, All Saints' Basilica. The monastery garden is open to the public.
