4. Albrecht von Wallenstein in Moravia

The years 1609 to 1617 were successful for Albrecht von Wallenstein. He married advantageously and continued to develop his military career.

IN MORAVIA

In May 1609, with the great intervention of the Jesuits, Wallenstein married a young widow, Lucretia Nekšovna of Landek, who was, however, a few years older than himself. He settled at her residence in Vsetín. After only five years, however, Lucretia died and he managed to acquire all her property as an inheritance - thus he was left with extensive goods in Moravia, to which he added 14 of his uncle's goods.

In 1615, at the General Assembly of the lands of the Bohemian Crown, the attempt to restore the confederation of the estates of all the lands of the monarchy failed, and the question of common defence and taxation was not resolved. However, the Moravian provincial government with the governor Ladislav of Lobkovicz was in favour of defence and appointed three colonels of the Moravian Estates, who were to recruit 3000 infantry and 1000 cavalrymen if necessary - among them, alongside Jiří of Náchod and Peter Sedlnický, was Albrecht of Wallenstein.

PEACE AGREEMENT

In 1617, Wallenstein supported the army of Archduke Ferdinand in the Furlan War (north-eastern part of the border between Austria and Slovenia) against Venice with two hundred horsemen (whom he hired with his own money) in the besieged fortress of Gradisca (Gradisca d'Isonzo). He proved his worth in the fighting and later in his military career he capitalized on it. On 29 June, Ferdinand II was crowned King of Bohemia in Prague. Styria. He induced the imperial envoy in Madrid to sign a peace treaty.
